My first ever Hunt

In 2021 roughly two years after my stroke. I went duck hunting with my nephew, an avid duck hunter and outdoor photographer. (@pepperspics14) He walked me through the process and we crept into the muck mud and freezing cold waters of a south Georgia swamp. I was so excited. I had never experienced an adrenaline high like this before. The minutes ticked by as we waited for shooting light and you could hear the rustle of wings and chirps of wood ducks just beyond the hole. Before I even raised my gun for the first duck, I was hooked. The cold air, the movement of the water, the thrill of what might fly by was all it took. But…I still wanted to get a duck. When the first ducks started to make their way over the hole the shotgun blasts started. I had no clue how fast the birds would be flying. Video really doesn’t do it justice. After a few slips on reloading and gandernecking I finally got a duck. A beautiful drake wood duck. I was so happy and the bug has not left. I have been duck hunting a few more times but I will always think back to that first time and how special it was in so many ways.
